People like to read lists. There are a ton of lists out there on the internet.Top songs, best athletes, biggest movies, etc. I actually have regular email conversations with my brother in list form. We hit up a wide range of topics with about a sentence or two. My Favorite Five lists is pretty much going to be this sort of thing, not a Top 5 or Best 5. Just my favorite five things and why.
This month I am going to list my Five Favorite logos. This isn’t an all-time list, just the five I am digging right now. So without further ado, here we go.

5. Batsymbol
If we are being honest, most superhero logos stink and their title graphics are even worse. While Batman has had various versions of the logo, I think my personal favorite is from the 1989 movie. The ellipse bat on a bright yellow background is excellent and as a kid I thought the part where the Batwing flew up to the moon was great.

4. Bell Atlantic
I don’t really know the history of this logo but I see the remnants of it everywhere in the tri-state area. The basic bell icon is often found by itself on utility pieces like manholes or maintenance sheds. Love seeing it on hardhats or old trucker style caps.

3. Philadelphia Flyers
A totally biased opinion but this logo has remained essentially untouched for 40+ years. Not many logos can say that but the flying P has stood the test of time. Very strong on its own and I don’t even know if there is an official wordmark for the logo.

2. Atari
I know it is all the rage these days but I love me some 80’s artwork. “The Fuji” is instantly recognizable by any current gamer and most kids who grow up in the 70s and 80s. Also, the damn thing looks great knocked out.

1. Hartford Whalers
Hartford. The Whale. Not sure where anyone else ranks this logo but it is my all-time favorite. The blue and green. The whale tail. The negative space H. I have nothing else to add to this except it is probably one of the most recognized logos for a defunct brand.
That’s it, that’s my list of favorite five logos. The list might change in a year, might even change in a week but right now these are my favorite. I’ll put together another list next month, let me know if you’d like to see something in particular.
